From then on, Yuki changed. She no longer asked her dad to buy her something; nor did she request Tim to accompany her during night time; actually, Yuki seldom ask for anything! The sudden maturity of Yuki made Tim feel anguish. She was trying to shoulder as many responsibilities as she could at this age as to prove what she had promised her mum. That was why Yuki never told his father about her severing headache. She did not want to show her weakness and dependence to anyone!

Just like what Yuki had said few months ago, mum is worrying of her now. Ya, maybe the only thing Tim could do now was praying to his dead wife!

The doctor in charge walked out, tearing off his mask and gloves. Tim was so penetrated into his own thinking that when the doctor patted him on the shoulder did he realize.

“Are you Yuki’s father? We’ve been doing what we can, your daughter……”

Three months later, Tim was sitting at the bench in front of a lake in the garden. The weather was good. The rain had just stopped. The grass in front of him was green and shining. There was an after-rain-smell mixed in the air which was freshening and relaxing.

A huge rainbow was dangling at the edge of the glamorous sky. The sun was warm and sparkling.

“The rainbow always makes the sky gloomy even though it is beautiful.” Tim mumbling to himself, as if thinking of what someone had said before.

“But look at the lake; look at the reflection of the rainbow!” said an affirmation voice beside Tim, “it’s smiling! It’s smiling at us all! It’s mum’s reply, dad! It’s her RAINBOW SMILEY!”

The operation had succeeded! Yuki was recovering soon. After the operation, this was her first time strolling outside the ward with his father in the hospital surrounding. She looked red in the face and happy!

Tim looked peace and calm. For over 1 year this was his first time feeling so near to his dead wife. He could even hear her voice, saying,

“Both of you have proved it!”
